BOSTON, JUNE 30, 2016 – Global athletic leader New Balance announced today the signing of Boris Berian to a multi-year endorsement contract. Berian, who was born in Colorado Springs and ran for Adams State University, is the 2016 U.S. Indoor National Champion and represented the United States at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 800 meters where he won the gold medal with an indoor best of 1:45:83.

“I appreciate the values that New Balance represents and it is clear to me that New Balance cares about runners,” says Berian. “I’ve always liked New Balance as a brand and have found their running products help me run fast.”

Berian will wear the New Balance SD200 and the SD400 for competition and trains in the brand’s Fresh Foam Zante v2 and 1400v4.

“We are extremely proud to welcome Boris to the New Balance running family,” says John Evans, Running Sports Marketing General Manager at New Balance. “His dedication to the sport of running and his strength of character make him a great fit for our brand and our roster of fast Team New Balance athletes. Boris is an incredible talent, and we look forward to helping him continue to achieve his running goals with superior New Balance product and service.”

At Adams State, Berian won the 2012 NCAA Men's Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships and the NCAA Men's Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at 800 meters. Prior to Adams State, Berian was the Colorado state champion for two consecutive years in the 400 and 800 meters, while attending Widefield High School in Colorado Springs.

“It has been incredible to see Boris live up to the promise of his dreams,” says Team NB colleague Brenda Martinez. “His story demonstrates to young runners who are aspiring to be great that if they can work hard and stay focused, they can achieve their personal goals.” In December 2014, Berian joined the Big Bear Track Club in California, which is sponsored by New Balance and coached by Carlos Handler, the husband of Martinez.  Berian will continue to live and train with the Club.

Berian’s first meet as a member of Team New Balance will be in July in Eugene, OR at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships where he will compete in the 800m.
