NEW BALANCE HOOPS UNVEILS THE BB9000
Made for life between the lines, the BB9000 is a celebration of New Balance basketball heritage.
Boston, MA – March 30, 2021 – Today, global athletic leader New Balance officially reveals the BB9000, a one-of-a-kind silhouette that blends high fashion and New Balance heritage in a modern streetstyle basketball shoe.
The first round of colorways for the BB9000 will be available on www.newbalance.com and the Foot Locker family of brands, which includes Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Champs Sports, Eastbay and Footaction starting April 1st with the suggested retail price of $140, with additional colorways launching throughout the 2021.
With this latest release, New Balance envisioned creating a retro to future crossover that blends elements from the brand’s innovative performance models with premium materials found in its top lifestyle shoes, a new kind of basketball modernism. The original 480 and 550 serve as inspiration for the retro look and help tell the story of New Balance history in the hoops category. While the midsole and outsole feature the same FuelCell technology other top New Balance performance basketball shoes such as the OMNIS, TWO WXY and the KAWHI have, the BB9000 is a lifestyle inspired model that sits beyond the lines. Finally, fans will find elements of classic New Balance branding pulled from the 1300 and 574 lifestyle silhouettes, offering a blend of facets from the brand’s staple of product that consumers have come to revere.
“With the BB9000, we wanted to create something that stayed true to our roots but wasn’t afraid to push the boundaries,” says Samuel Pearce Creative Design Manager at New Balance. “We wanted to tell the story of our past but merge it with current hoops streetstyle, allowing consumers to take it from the court to the streets. We feel like the shoe we’ve created pushes basketball shoes into a new space and witnesses our performance innovation through a new lifestyle lens.”
The BB9000 profile draws inspiration from formal fashion footwear, with details such as a two-part “welted” cupsole visual, full grain leathers and nubuck suedes typically found in New Balance premium lifestyle models. Blending those details with a translucent vis-tech outsole which shows New Balance’s signature FuelCell technology throughout the midsole, further blends lifestyle and performance in this silhouette. Oversized laces with wax-dipped aglets are taken from the runway and combined with a throwback tongue to complete this hybrid fashion, hoops shoe.
The versatile BB9000 hoops shoe blends the old with the new in a futuristic model, made for life between shootarounds.
