ECHOS OF A BUTTERFLY

The Bricks & Wood and New Balance 1906 utility.


Bricks & Wood are back, and this time lending their creative direction to the 1906 Utility. Taking on the rugged, outdoor-inspired update of the 2010 runner, the South Central, Los Angeles imprint uses black ripstop mesh as a base layer creating stark contrast to the ultra-vibrant, multicolored ombre design that unfolds across the curvilinear synthetic overlays. Greens and yellow and reds all flow into each other and then back to black as pink accents highlight the segmented shock-absorbing ABZORB SBS pods at the heel. Flexible ACTEVA LITE, and N-ergy cushioning finish off the technical sole unit while corded laces and bungee closures finish off the Utility’s trail-inspired details.


By using the vivid colors of the Madagascar Sunset Moth and employing them in an ombre design, the Bricks & Wood and New Balance 1906 Utility not only speaks to the beauty and grace of the butterfly, but also to its transformative nature and an overarching concept known as the ‘butterfly effect.’ It’s a theory that suggests even the smallest decisions can have profound effects, leading to unimaginable consequences. And it’s an idea that Bricks & Wood COO, Daniela Barraza, reflects upon as she tracks her path from Bricks & Wood intern and first official employee, to Chief Operations Officer to this collaboration.

In the wings: A vibrant ombre design transforms from black to yellow, red, green, and pink, to mimic the ornate markings of the Madagascar Sunset Moth.


Marking the occasion: A butterfly graphic tongue tag is accompanied by co-branded saddle and insoles to commemorate the collaboration.


The Bricks and Wood x New Balance 1906 collaboration launches exclusively on BricksandWood.us starting October 12, 2024, and globally on NewBalance.com and at select retailers on October 18, 2024. Suggested retail pricing is $170.
