Originally selected in the 34th round of the 2017 First‑Year Player Draft, Garrett chose instead to attend the University of Tennessee, where he spent three seasons developing into one of the nation’s premier collegiate pitchers going 10–9 with 13 saves, a 4.64 ERA, and 139 strikeouts across 36 appearances. Since turning professional, Garrett has emerged as one of the most dominant pitchers in the game. He was named the 2024 American League Comeback Player of the Year, earned selections to the 2024 and 2025 All‑Star teams, led Major League Baseball in strikeouts in 2025, and capped the season with an All‑MLB First Team honor.
