Boston, MA – December 4, 2020 – Global athletic leader, New Balance and two-time NBA Champion & Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard released the latest KAWHI signature shoe: KAWHI Christmas. Just in time for the holidays, the KAWHI Christmas collection includes a new winter-themed colorway for the signature shoe and festive sweatshirt.
The KAWHI Christmas signature shoe and sweatshirt will be sold exclusively at New Balance and the Foot Locker family of brands, which includes Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Champs Sports, Eastbay and Footaction. The entire collection will be available on www.newbalance.com starting December 11th, with the suggested retail prices of $80 for the sweater and $160 for the signature shoe.
The collection takes inspiration from one of Kawhi’s favorite mythical beasts, the Snow Wasset, a winter creature that stalks through the snow and ice and ambushes prey. Originating from the oral traditions of North American pioneers, the animal is said to be most active in the winter and able to grow several times larger than a wolverine. This new holiday collection shows the Wasset stealing the ball from the sweatshirt and bringing it over to the tongue of the shoe as it relentlessly pursuits its prey; a parallel to how Kawhi plays on the court.
“In working with Kawhi, we wanted to ensure that his final signature shoe for 2020 was unique to his personality and further showcased the ice in his veins and what drives him,” explained Jonathan Grondin, New Balance’s Design Director for Basketball “Like the mythical Snow Wasset, Kawhi is relentless on the court and it was imperative that the shoe’s design emulated his work ethic and how he comes alive in the winter during the NBA season.”
This latest release caps a year that saw the release of Kawhi’s first signature shoe, 4 Bounces, as well as the Jolly Rancher collaboration and the Seismic Moment.
