Pushing boundaries with carbon fiber and expanding the FuelCell platform with the launch of the FuelCell SuperComp Trainer

Boston, MA, July 18, 2022 - Today, New Balance announces the release of the newest model in the FuelCell platform – the FuelCell SuperComp Trainer. The FuelCell SuperComp Trainer, equipped with New Balance’s newest underfoot technology, Energy Arc, infuses high energy, performance designs into a shoe for runners at all levels. The FuelCell SuperComp Trainer redefines what to expect from a training shoe and from the FuelCell platform.

The FuelCell platform debuted in 2019 with the launch of the FuelCell 5280 that was designed with the road mile in mind and looked to optimize energy return. Today, the platform remains dedicated to that same goal, helping runners achieve peak training performance.

The FuelCell SuperComp Trainer features new, state-of-the-art Energy Arc technology developed by the New Balance Sports Research Lab together with the design team. Energy Arc pairs sport-specific carbon fiber plate geometry with strategic midsole voids, designed to deliver a higher amount of total energy return. This technology will provide runners with a fearlessly fast ride. Consumers can expect to see New Balance Energy Arc in key models across tennis and basketball in the coming months.

As carbon fiber technology continues to advance and funnel into other sports, New Balance running models that contain carbon fiber plates will fall under the “SuperComp” name. The name SuperComp pays homage to a running shoe from the New Balance archives, the 1978 SuperComp. When it launched in 1978, the SuperComp featured New Balance’s best technology in a competitive shoe. The FuelCell SuperComp Trainer carries on the legacy of its original counterpart by utilizing high energy return foams and carbon fiber plates to provide runners with the best in innovative technology.

“The launch of the FuelCell SuperComp Trainer speaks volumes to New Balance’s long-standing commitment to world-class sport innovation and technology,” said Kevin Fitzpatrick, Global Director of Performance Marketing at New Balance. “Just off the heels of opening the TRACK at New Balance and our new Sports Research Lab, we are excited to launch the FuelCell SuperComp Trainer, a training shoe that shatters all expectations of how running should feel. FuelCell technology continues to position New Balance as a leader in performance innovation, so we are excited to unveil the “SuperComp” naming convention, as well as debut Energy Arc technology that will live across multiple sport categories.”

The FuelCell SuperComp Trainer will be available for purchase at newbalance.com on August 1 with a suggested retail pricing of $180 USD. Make sure to follow @newbalancerunning for all of the latest updates and creative content.
