Boston, MA – March 12, 2021 – Global athletic leader New Balance officially reveals the TWO WXY, its latest performance basketball shoe and an evolution of the OMN1S, which for the past two years has been the foundational offering of the brand’s return to the basketball category.

Today’s game is positionless and players need a shoe that gives them the versatility to excel at both ends of the court. The “X” and “O” in TWO WXY allude to the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and how players must master both in order to win.

“With the TWO WXY, we wanted to create something that players at any level would not only want to wear, but need to wear, if they wish to perform at the highest level,” says Jonathan Grondin, Design Director for Field of Play and Basketball at New Balance. “For decades, the focus of the basketball shoe world has been more on the superstar names and less on performance. The TWO WXY is all about the technology and giving every player, whether they’re competing for an NBA championship or a state title, the same opportunity to maximize their potential.”

The TWO WXY features New Balance Kinetic Stitch technology throughout the upper giving players the right amount of stretch and support where they need it most. New Balance FuelCell technology features the highest rebound properties of any New Balance performance foam on the market, making it the perfect choice for the TWO WXY since it a balance of ultra-light weight and responsiveness.

The design team worked with the New Balance Sports Research Lab to use the brand’s latest algorithmic advancements in data to design to inform the upper Kinetic Stitch support as well as the outsole traction pattern. This algorithm, originally used to create the uppers from the brand’s award winning performance running footwear line but when applied to basketball shoes the design team also used it for the outsole to ensure optimal traction. Finally, a fused, no-sew tongue featuring the words ‘TWO WXY’ on both sides serves as a statement to any opponent who lines up against the latest New Balance Hoops performance model.

Team New Balance Athletes Jamal Murray, Dejounte Murray and Darius Bazley have been wearing various colorways of the TWO WXY throughout the early 2020-2021 NBA season that speak to their individual stories. All three players have already worn the shoe on-court, most notably Dejounte who unveiled the highly anticipated “Fiesta” colorway on court during an early season Spurs win.

The first round of colorways for the TWO WXY will be available on www.newbalance.com and the Foot Locker family of brands, which includes Foot Locker, Kids Foot Locker, Champs Sports, Eastbay and Footaction starting in February with the suggested retail price of $140, with additional colorways launching throughout the 2021.
