New Balance reimagines its classic ABZORB technology with the launch of the ABZORB 2010 and ABZORB 2000
Boston, MA, April 23, 2025 – Today, New Balance unveils the ABZORB 2010 and ABZORB 2000, adding two new and progressive models to the brand’s exploration of 2000s-era running influences.
Originally introduced in 1993, ABZORB cushioning revolutionized running technology and has since become a signature feature of several fan favorite lifestyle models. Both the ABZORB 2010 and the ABZORB 2000 each uniquely transform this functional feature into a fresh visual design statement standing out amongst other New Balance silhouettes, delivering exceptional comfort while honoring New Balance’s running heritage through a modern lens.
With wearability in mind, the ABZORB 2010 combines the excitement of an innovative, all-new style with a sense of the familiar. The segmented ABZORB sole unit features more expansive proportions, becoming the centerpiece of this design. This eye-catching visual is paired with a diamond-knit mesh upper for an updated twist on a classic look.
Previewed at Milan Design Week in early April, the ABZORB 2000 brings together a progressive design, a minimalist upper, and futuristic details for a new look at visible tech. The design process incorporated 3D tools to help create a hyper detailed articulated sole unit and capture curves not easily represented on paper. This experimental design features a full-length combination of ABZORB cushioning and ABZORB SBS pods, using a distinctive feature of 2000s running-inspired classics as a focal point.
“The real challenge in designing the ABZORB 2000 was finding the right balance between heritage and modernity,” said Charlotte Lee, Design Manager. “We wanted to amplify those iconic design cues, like the ABZORB SBS gel cushioning, but rework them through a contemporary lens. It’s that tension between the past and the present that really drives our design philosophy.”
The ABZORB 2010 will be available globally on NewBalance.com and select retailers beginning on May 7, 2025, for a suggested retail price of $160 USD. The ABZORB 2000 will be available globally on NewBalance.com and select retailers beginning on June 12, 2025, for a suggested retail price of $170 USD.
