The Renewal Workshop Teams Up with New Balance to launch New Balance Renewed

OREGON August 12, 2021The Renewal Workshop (TRW), the leading provider of circular solutions for the apparel and textile industry, today announced its newest relationship with New Balance. Through this relationship, TRW and New Balance have created the New Balance Renewed program designed to give a second life to New Balance’s apparel.

At its core, New Balance Renewed aims to extend the life of imperfect or returned items, helping to keep them out of landfills. Giving these garments a second life, New Balance offers its customers a way to shop renewed product that is guaranteed to meet the same high standards they’ve come to expect from the brand.

Through The Renewal Workshop’s proprietary six-stage, zero-waste process, garments are sorted, graded, thoroughly cleaned, repaired to like-new standards, inspected, and verified to joint quality standards before being given a Renewal Workshop certification and becoming ready for sale through TRW’s website. Each item’s impact is measured to illustrate the tangible difference consumers are making by purchasing a New Balance Renewed product.

“To bring on an iconic brand like New Balance is a part of The Renewal Workshop’s partnership expansion plan,” says Nicole Bassett, co-founder. “We look forward to seeing New Balance Renewed become a driver of renewing products and to helping New Balance launch re-commerce in the athleticwear sector.”

New Balance has a holistic approach to climate change with a focus on key areas where the brand can affect change. One area of focus is to increase product longevity and find ways to onboard new tools to support a more circular business model. Through key collaborators New Balance can work with experts to help enable action and find ways to for consumers to help drive change alongside the brand.

“New Balance is constantly learning and evolving our approach to create quality, long-lasting design. In April 2021, TRW led a workshop during New Balance’s Design Week to help educate designers how to intentionally design future apparel for repairability and garment recycling.” said John Stokes, Director of Global Sustainability for New Balance. “Together with The Renewal Workshop, we’re keeping apparel in use for longer and learning how to design for repairability.”
