NEW BALANCE PROGRAM RETURNS

TO UNVEIL NEW, SUSTAINABLY-LED DESIGN

PRJ 3.0 shoe makes use of surplus materials—

BOSTON, MA – November 12, 2019 – In July 2018, Global Athletic leader, New Balance, launched the program to challenge the product creation process and deliver new innovative products to consumers with unprecedented speed. PRJ 3.0 was created in the New Balance Global Design Center by footwear designer Seth Maxwell who was inspired by the challenge of taking a more sustainable approach to building a shoe levering surplus materials. The limited edition PRJ 3.0 will launch globally on www.NewBalance.com and with exclusive retail partners such as Bodega, Extra Butter, Kith and Vibram on November 15, 2019 for a suggested retail price of $180.00.

For PRJ 3.0, the team was challenged to take an existing midsole and create a limited edition silhouette using surplus materials where possible, preventing the disposal of some leftover materials. This results in each pair of PRJ 3.0 being completely unique, with no two pairs (or even two shoes) being the same. The uppers are each created using surplus mesh and surplus synthetic and upper webbing from the factory. Additional components incorporating surplus materials include the midsole, which makes use of leftover midsole color pellets; and the sockliner, which is a surplus liner stamped with the PRJ logo. The PRJ 3.0 also includes VIBRAM® EcoStep for the outsole, which is made of 30% recycled material.

The PRJ 3.0 was built on the Hierro v5 midsole, using surplus materials when possible. The style visually delivers an authentic surplus story with mismatched colors and materials. Additional features include an alternative closure and Fresh Foam data to design cushioning.
