Reformation x New Balance

Release Date: 04 Dec 2019
New Balance has teamed up with Reformation to leverage the brand’s expertise in sustainability to reinvent classic New Balance styles partially using eco-friendly materials. The Reformation x New Balance collection will offer five silhouettes and marks both New Balance’s first sustainability-led collaboration and Reformation’s hallmark entry into athletic footwear.
With sustainability and eco-fashion top-of-mind for consumers, both brands are continuing to prioritize the planet without sacrificing style. The Reformation x New Balance footwear are partially made with eco-friendly materials: post-consumer recycled polyester in the linings, laces and labels; chrome free suede; and shoe inserts made from a combination of EVA foam and BLOOM algae printed with soy-based inks.
The collection includes five styles and colorways, including classic 574 and X 90 silhouettes, and will be available to purchase globally from Reformation and New Balance’s online and retail locations on October 10th.
  • The upper textiles, upper linings and lace fabric are made with post-consumer recycled polyester.
  • The upper overlays are made with chrome free suede from a tannery that has Gold Leather Working Group status (this means they scored in the highest percentile within the leather industry for things like environmental compliance and sustainable practices).
  • The tongue and collars are made with either chrome free suede from a tannery that has Gold Leather Working Group status or recycled polyester.
  • Shoe inserts are made from a combination of EVA foam and BLOOM brand algae die cut. BLOOM foam is an algae-based foam compound. By filtering Algae blooms out of effected waterways, BLOOM creates their compound from a renewable algae feedstock, while at the same time returning clean water back to the environment. Using it instead of full EVA reduces fossil fuels usage.  So, by combining EVA foam and BLOOM brand algae foams we are able to help reduce the amount of fossil fuels used in this insert.
