Boston, MA and Tokyo, Japan (July 15, 2020) - Global athletic leader New Balance is proud to announce that Team New Balance Japanese athlete Nozomi Tanaka set a new Japanese record in Women’s 3000m race at the Hokuren Distance Challenge 2020 in Hokkaido, Japan.
Tanaka, who runs for Toyota Industries TC and also a student at Doshisha University, finished first with a time of 8:41.35, breaking the previous Japanese record of 8:44.40 that had lasted for 18 years.
"I am happy, but I am already thinking about how to make me faster in the future. I had a lot of excitement at the race after a long absence (cause by COVID-19), and I was able to run in good mental and physical condition. Thank you for the support to all of you. Thanks to that, I was able to achieve such a record. I would like to continue to build good relationships with the people who support me," said Nozomi after the race.
In the 3000m race, Nozomi wore the New Balance 5280 in Neo Flame which launched at retail in June 2020 with the suggested retail price of $200.
